龜山島位於東北季風首當其衝之面，許多自然環境的變化，成為宜蘭人的氣象站，這些民間智慧以口語、俗諺的方式流傳下來，饒富趣味。

龜山島最高僅為401公尺，若上空出現烏雲壟罩，這種低空雲層，就表示快要下雨了。

從宜蘭平原遠眺龜山島上空的烏雲，就像戴著一頂帽子，俗諺：「龜山若崁頭，大雨隨時到」。

Guishan Island is directly impacted by northeast monsoon, which gives rise to various natural environmental changes, making Guishan Island Yilan people’s weather station. The interesting folk wisdom has been passed down orally through generations in forms of idioms and expressions.

龜山島孤懸海中，島民的生活型態、建築風格必須因應氣候及就地取材龜卵石蓋房子，東北季風來時，製作72角，他們採取風箏娛樂；而龜山島末端有一道長灘，會隨著季風及潮汐而南北移動是著名的「神龜擺尾」。

Surrounded by sea, the lifestyle and architectural style on Guishan Island must cope with the weather and feature local materials. The residents collect local stones to build houses, and make 72-angle kites for entertainment during the monsoon season; at the tip of Guishan Island is a long beach, which moves north and south due to monsoon and tides. This is the famous “wagging tail of the immortal turtle.”
