“Local Taiwanese Opera in YILAN” originated in Lanyang Plain. Early on, the plays were performed in the form of “Lo-deh Sao” (lit. sweeping the ground), at temple squares or in religious parades. Performers were all male amateurs, and the costumes, songs, makeups, and choreography, were all simple and primitive, as it was an unrefined folk art.
Taiwan Theater Museum strives for preservation of the culture and heritages of Taiwanese opera, and aims to pass down the art and preserve the cultural value of Yilan.
Jietoufen community is the hometown of Taiwanese Opera. The community has proactively formed a local opera troupe to regain the glory of the hometown of Taiwanese opera.
